She knew she had to do exactly what they were told. They had sold their big day for several hundred thousand pounds and now she had no choice. But it didn’t stop her feeling like a prize lemon as she perched on her ridiculous love seat and smiled cheerily for the photographer while the magazine woman, who looked frighteningly witch-like in her black dress, barked orders.

Jasmine turned round expecting to see Chrissie, Cookie and co. , but instead Camilla was ushering Maxine de la Fallaise, Victoria Beckham and a rather reluctant-looking Lila Rose into the marquee. Jasmine felt her cheeks burn with embarrassment. She hardly knew Victoria and Lila and now she was being thrust into fake friendships with them just to sell a few extra copies of a celebrity gossip magazine. This was her wedding day. She had wanted to feel like a princess but instead Jasmine felt like a cheap fraud. She was prostituting her big day for a few pounds. And the sad truth was she needed that money. Or at least her share of it. The blackmailer had cleared her out of savings and even though they were now married, she couldn’t live entirely off Jimmy’s earnings.

As she was squeezed between Victoria and Lila, Jasmine felt the shame creep up her neck; a lump formed in her throat and her eyes filled with tears. Nothing felt real any more. Nothing was real any more.
